How Euporia works

Money in many currencies

How Euporia keeps original amounts and converts totals to your base currency.

Euporia is built for people whose money lives in more than one currency.

Every amount keeps its own currency

A transaction, account or goal is stored in the currency it happened in. A payment of 30 CHF stays 30 CHF, even if your base currency is euros. Nothing is rewritten when exchange rates move or when you change your base currency.

Totals use your base currency

Your base currency is the one totals are shown in: Overview, budgets, reports, net worth and goal totals. You choose it during your first steps and can change it in Settings. See the list of supported currencies.

Where the rates come from

Euporia converts with the euro reference rates published by the European Central Bank, through frankfurter.app. The rates are refreshed once a day.

  • The latest available rates are used for every total, including totals for past months. Euporia doesn't use historical rates yet, so a past month's converted total can change slightly as rates move.
  • Wherever amounts were converted, a line such as Valued 28 Oct · FX: frankfurter.app (ECB) shows the date of the rates used.
  • If there's no rate for a currency, its amounts are left out and named, for example Excludes XYZ (no exchange rate). Euporia never guesses a rate.

The Bulgarian lev uses its fixed euro rate of 1.95583, because the ECB no longer publishes it.

Decimal places

Euporia stores amounts as exact decimals, not approximate floating-point numbers, so totals add up to the cent. Japanese yen has no decimal places; every other supported currency has two, and amounts you enter must fit them.
